SEO Starts Here – Beginners Google Guide
It still amazes me how many people are still surprised when I tell them about Google’s Search Engine Optimisation Starter Guide. I think perhaps it’s never really been promoted as such, but its still very relevant and a great example for anyone interested in SEO.
During client web sessions I often refer to this guide if someone is still unsure about the basics of SEO. It covers page ‘Titles’ and ‘Descriptions’, Site Structure, Content Optimisation and making use of Webmaster tools.
So for anyone learning about SEO for the first time, or even some experienced people out there the Google Guide is still great to refer to for tips and ideas and clarification of the Do’s and Don’t’s.
Many website owners still struggle to understand this relationship with what’s on the page and what’s in the code. I often find that by actually showing the code of a page then pointing out the meta tags, that this suddenly makes sense. So if any of you have not done this yet – simply ‘right click’ on a blank space on a website and select ‘view source’ you will then be seeing what Google reads.
Notice the <Title> and <Description> – This is what Google will try to display in the search results.
